North County Gymnastics Athletes Fly High at Region 1 Championships, Multiple Podium Finishes, and National Qualifiers

North County Gymnastics Athletes Compete at Region 1 Championships

The Region 1 Championships, held at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 10-12th, brought together some of the top gymnasts in the western United States. Regionals is where the best athletes from Southern California, Northern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii compete to determine who stands at the top of the region.

For many athletes, qualifying for Regionals is already a major accomplishment. From there, only the top performers move on to Western Nationals, making this one of the most competitive stages in the USA Gymnastics Development Program competition.

This year, athletes from North County Gymnastics & The Gyminny Kids showed exactly why they are among the most respected programs in the region.

Why the Region 1 Championships Matter

Region 1 is widely considered one of the most competitive regions in the country. Thousands of gymnasts compete throughout the season across multiple states, and only a small percentage qualify to this level.

By the time athletes reach Regionals:

  • They have already advanced through local and state competitions

  • They are competing against the strongest athletes in the western U.S.

  • Every tenth matters, placements are tight, and execution must be consistent

For parents unfamiliar with the system, this is where the distinction between strong gymnasts and elite-level competitors lies.

Carlsbad Athletes Deliver Under Pressure

Twelve athletes from the NCG Carlsbad location qualified to compete, and they showed up ready.

LEVEL 9 STANDOUTS

Reese Smith

  • 3rd Place All-Around, 38.05

  • 3rd Place Beam, 9.425

Reese delivered a complete performance across all four events, earning a spot on the all-around podium against some of the best athletes in the region.

Melody Martin

  • 4th Place All-Around, 37.975

  • 2nd Place Beam, 9.45

  • 2nd Place Floor, 9.65

Melody's consistency and strong execution on beam and floor launched her into multiple podium finishes.

Jacqueline Hernandez

  • 3rd Place All-Around, 37.775

  • 1st Place Beam, 9.6

Jacqueline's beam routine stood out at the highest level, earning her a regional title on the event.

Madison Daravong

  • 1st Place Beam, 9.5

  • 2nd Place Floor, 9.45

Another dominant beam performance, showcasing the program's strength in one of the most demanding events in gymnastics.

LEVEL 8 HIGHLIGHT

Tristen Fontanetta

  • 4th Place All-Around, 37.45

  • 1st Place Floor, 9.725

Tristen's floor routine was one of the top performances of the meet, combining power, control, and presentation.

Poway Athletes Continue the Momentum

The NCG Poway location added to the medal count with strong performances in Level 8.

Sophia Brunsilius

  • 1st Place Floor, 9.6

  • 2nd Place Beam, 9.55

Sophia's results reflect high-level execution and confidence in two of the most competitive events.

Western National Qualifiers

Advancing beyond Regionals is a major milestone. It places athletes among the top competitors across multiple regions in the western United States.

The following athletes qualified for Western Nationals:

  • Reese Smith, Level 9 Jr 7

  • Melody Martin, Level 9 Jr 7

  • Jacqueline Hernandez, Level 9 Jr 4

This is a significant achievement and a reflection of consistent high-level performance throughout the season.

What These Results Actually Represent

Results like these reflect:

  • Years of consistent training

  • Attention to detail in skill progressions

  • Elite coaching focused on readiness, not rushing skills

  • Athletes are learning how to perform under pressure

At North County Gymnastics & The Gyminny Kids, the goal is not just to win meets. The goal is to develop well-rounded humans on and off the mat and to build athletes who are prepared, disciplined, and confident in high-pressure environments.

A Program Built on Consistency and Standards

Strong results across multiple levels and locations show something bigger than individual success. They show a system that works.

At all of NCG's gyms, athletes are being developed with:

  • Structured progressions

  • High-level coaching

  • A focus on execution and safety

  • A long-term approach to athlete growth

Gymnastics is the foundation for all sports.
