Level 6/7 Region 1 Championship Highlights: NCG Gymnasts Win 21 Gold Medals Against the Best in the West
When athletes qualify for Regionals, they are no longer competing at a local or even state level. They are stepping onto a stage with the top gymnasts from across multiple states, representing the highest level of competition most will see all season.
From April 24 to April 26, at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, the best Level 6 and Level 7 gymnasts from California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Hawaii came together for one of the most competitive meets in the region.
North County Gymnastics, competing under NCG Carlsbad and NCG Poway, showed up prepared, focused, and ready to perform. The results reflect not only talent, but consistency, preparation, supportive parents, and strong coaching.
What Makes Regionals Different
Gymnasts must qualify through their season scores, meaning every athlete on the floor has already proven themselves. At this level, the margin for error is small, and execution matters more than ever.
According to USA Gymnastics' competition structure, Region 1 is among the most competitive in the country. Athletes are judged not only on skill difficulty, but also on precision, control, and composure under pressure.
This is where strong fundamentals separate good routines from great ones.

What These Results Really Mean for Families
It is easy to look at medals and placements and focus only on the outcome. The deeper story is in the process behind these results.
At North County Gymnastics & The Gyminny Kids, success at this level comes from:
Structured progressions that prioritize safety and long-term development
Emphasis on fundamentals before difficulty
A culture built on accountability, effort, and team support
Research from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics continues to support what we see every day in the gym. Kids involved in structured physical activity develop stronger coordination, better focus, improved confidence, and greater resilience.
Competitive gymnastics takes those benefits even further by teaching goal setting, discipline, and emotional control under pressure.
Why Gymnastics Is the Foundation for All Sports
Gymnastics lays a foundation that transfers to nearly every other sport.
Strength, balance, spatial awareness, coordination, and body control are developed at an early age. These are not sport-specific skills; they are life skills.
Many professional athletes across sports have a gymnastics background, thanks to this foundation. When kids learn to move well, they gain an advantage that lasts for years.

What age should kids start gymnastics?
Children can start as early as walking age in parent participation classes. Structured classes typically begin around age 3.
How can I get my child started?
