NCG Level 10 Gymnasts Make Company History at the Region 1 College Showcase

By Daniel Gundert, Owner of North County Gymnastics and The Gyminny Kids

For the first time in company history, our NCG Level 10 girls team attended the Region 1 College Showcase. Six athletes from NCG Carlsbad traveled to Salt Lake City with Head Coach Ryan to share their gymnastics with college coaches and recruiters from across the country.

The showcase took place October 3 and 4, 2026, at the University of Utah's Dumke Gymnastics Center. For our athletes, it was a chance to compete in a new setting, connect with college programs, and see a little more clearly what the next chapter of gymnastics might look like.

It was also a proud moment for the North County Gymnastics and the Gyminny Kids family. We have worked hard to build a strong competitive program, and seeing our athletes take this step together reflects their commitment, their coaches' dedication, and the support of their families.

A first for North County Gymnastics & the Gyminny Kids

Attending the Region 1 College Showcase was a milestone for our program. The event brought together 52 gyms and 234 gymnasts from across Region 1, creating an exciting setting for athletes to perform before college representatives and learn more about collegiate gymnastics.

Our athletes were there to show the skills they have developed through years of practice. They were also there to experience the energy of a college gymnastics environment, meet people connected to the sport's next level, and represent NCG with pride.

Head Coach Ryan accompanied the team and supported the athletes throughout the experience. Having a coach there to guide and encourage them made this a team milestone, not just an individual opportunity.

Meet the NCG athletes

We are proud of the six Level 10 athletes who represented NCG at the showcase:

  • Jacqueline Hernandez, Class of 2031

  • Melody Martin, Class of 2029

  • Reese Smith, Class of 2030

  • Emery Williams, Class of 2031

  • Rylie Williams, Class of 2027

  • Zarah Williamson, Class of 2028

Each athlete has their own goals, strengths, and path ahead. The showcase gave them a chance to share what they have been working toward and imagine the possibilities after high school.

College programs attended

College representatives from the following programs attended the showcase:

Seeing so many programs represented in one place gave athletes and families a chance to learn about the range of opportunities in college gymnastics. Every athlete's journey is different, and an event like this can help young gymnasts better understand the work, commitment, and choices involved in pursuing that path.

Building a college-bound program

At North County Gymnastics and Gyminny Kids, we are proud to support athletes as they grow through every stage of their gymnastics journey. Our competitive teams include athletes across Levels 2 through 10 and Xcel. We take pride in building what we believe is one of San Diego's strongest competitive gymnastics programs.

A strong program is not defined only by how athletes perform on competition day. It is built through consistent coaching, focused practice, resilience, teamwork, and steady progress over time. Those qualities help athletes prepare for bigger goals, whether that means advancing to a new level, becoming a stronger teammate, or exploring college gymnastics.

The Region 1 College Showcase offered our Level 10 athletes a new way to connect their daily training with future possibilities. It showed them that their years of work can open doors to new experiences and that there are many ways to stay connected to gymnastics after high school.

Proud of the work behind the opportunity

A weekend like this is exciting, but it also represents a great deal of behind-the-scenes work. Each skill, routine, and competition experience is built over time. Athletes put in the hours, coaches help them improve, and families support the commitment that competitive gymnastics asks of everyone involved.

We are grateful to Ryan Covo for accompanying the team and supporting our athletes at the showcase. We also want to recognize the families who encourage their gymnasts and help make opportunities like this possible.

Most of all, we are proud of Jacqueline, Melody, Reese, Emery, Rylie, and Zarah. They represented NCG with heart and gave our company a milestone we will remember.

Looking ahead

This showcase marks an exciting new chapter for NCG. We hope it is the beginning of many opportunities for our athletes to explore college gymnastics, meet coaches, and picture what may come next.

Every gymnast's path is personal. Some athletes will pursue gymnastics in college, while others will carry the lessons they learned in the gym into other parts of life. Either way, confidence, discipline, perseverance, and teamwork are part of what makes the journey valuable.

To our athletes: we are proud of you, and we cannot wait to see what you do next.

Congratulations to our NCG Level 10 team. Let's go, NCG!

At North County Gymnastics and Gyminny Kids, our mission is Fun and fitness while teaching character through sport.
